Scope and Duration of your Doctoral Project

The registration at Medical Research School or likewise the acceptance into the PhD program mark the offical start of your doctoral project.
You have four years to complete and hand in your dissertation for the degrees Dr.med., Dr. med. dent. and Dr. PH. The degree PhD in Medical Sciences should be completed within three years.

In order to successfully complete the degree Dr. med. there are several milestones to be met along the way:

  • According to the doctoral regulations you have four years to complete your docotral project. Within this time frame you conduct research, write your dissertation and hand it in for review.

But a successful research is not the only aspect to consider. Please also take into account the following:

  • Before handing in the dissertation you need to have completed the structured training programme at Medical Research School.
     
  • When doing the doctorate parallel to studying, you need to have completed the first section of the Medical Examination (M1) before registering your doctoral project. You can only hand in your disseration for review after having completed the third section of the Medical Examination (M3).

  • Furthermore, issuing the written reviews as well as the determination of the disputation date take their time. The oral defence cannot take place before both reviews have been handed in.

  • When doing the doctorate parallel to studying, you need to have completed the Preliminary Dentistry Examination before registering your doctoral project. You can only hand in your disseration for review after having completed the state examination Dentistry.

  • Furthermore, issuing the written reviews as well as the determination of the disputation date take their time. The oral defence cannot take place before both reviews have been handed in.

  • According to the doctoral regulations you have four years to complete your docotral project. Within this time frame you conduct research, write your dissertation and hand it in for review.

But a successful research is not the only aspect to consider. Please also take into account the following:

  • Before handing in the dissertation you need to have completed the structured training programme at Medical Research School.
  • If you do not hold a „Master of  Science  (M.  Sc.)  in  Public  Health“, you need to present proof of academic work experience in the field of Public  Health for a minimum of two years.
     
  • Furthermore, issuing the written reviews as well as the determination of the disputation date take their time. The oral defence cannot take place before both reviews have been handed in.

In order to successfully complete the degree PhD in Medical Sciences there are several milestones to be met along the way:

  • According to the doctoral regulations you have three years to complete your docotral project. In justified cases, an extension is possible.

But a successful research is not the only aspect to consider. Please also take into account the following:

  • Before handing in the dissertation you need to have completed the basic and cluster curriculum.
     
  • Furthermore, issuing the written reviews as well as the determination of the disputation date take their time. The oral defence cannot take place before both reviews have been handed in.
